I had the pleasure of doing a hands on oil painting demonstration for the Renfrew Art Guild at their monthly meeting Tuesday, November 4, 2104. The purpose of the demo was to show the use of the Bob Ross medium (liquid clear) on a black canvas and the application of transparent oil paint to the prepared canvas. The final subject was revealed as if by magic.
A dozen Guild members and guests got prepared canvas, brushes and paint ready and set about painting the Northern Lights. I started them off with the basic instruction to apply the liquid clear and to paint the transparent colours (Alizarin crimson, Phthalo blue and Phthalo green) onto the canvas. They painted bands of titanium white over the transparent colours and blending this white with the background colours to reveal, as if by magic, the Northern Lights.
It was a pleasure and a treat to provide this demonstration to this great group and I thank the Renfrew Art Guild for the invitation and the opportunity to do this demo.
The artists in attendance, creative free spirits that they are, used their various talents to create beautiful, fanciful and delightful works of art. I am delighted to display their work here.
This really was a fun event!
Hello, I enjoy reading your emails that come to me. It is so sad that I can no longer learn from you, but Art passed away last May 8, so my travelling days are over. I will forever have fond memories of you and your dear wife, and all I learned in your teachings. All my best
